The Therapy Center of Southern Illinois

The Therapy Center, Located in Carterville, Illinois, is a non-profit organization. Their objective is to enable children with disabilities to lead happier, more productive and self-sufficient lives. TLC provides services including pediatric speech & therapy, language, cognitive, and motor skills training along with physical therapy. The center also provides hearing aids, muscle and limb braces and equipment such as wheel chairs and walkers. These professional services are available at no charge to over 350 children annually.Throughout each year special events fundraising efforts such as Southern Illinois roadblocks in May, Local 773 trivia night in June, and our Local 773 Bocce Ball Tournament in October. All donations collected go directly to help the children of the Therapy Center. Laborers assisted in building TLC in 1993 through donated labor and financing was provided through Central Laborers’ Pension Funds’ real estate program. Since then, Laborers’ have raised more than $1,000,000 for TLC. All of the services for children are provided free of charge and the donations raised have played an important part in keeping the Center open and helping children. 

Edward M. Smith Golf Tournament

To benefit the Connell F. Smith-Homer Brown Scholarship Fund

Laborers’ Local 773 is proud to sponsor the Edward M. Smith Scholarship Golf Tournament to benefit the Connell F. Smith-Homer Brown Scholarship fund which is held each year on the 4th Friday in June at Hickory Ridge Golf Club in Carbondale, Illinois. Local 773 along with the Prince Law Firm also hosts a welcoming reception beginning at 5:30pm at Laborers’ Local 773.
The Edward M. Smith Golf Tournament is one of the most well-known tournaments in Southern Illinois. The tournament kicks off with a welcoming reception with food and beverages on Thursday evening which is attended by friends, colleagues, dignitaries and supporters of Laborers’ Local 773. On Friday, golfers will have the opportunity to enjoy a day on the green with free beverages all day, an early lunch of brats and burgers as well as a dinner with ribeyes and chicken provided to all participants. The day will wrap up with an abundant amount of prizes, souvenirs and gifts including cash prizes for winning teams.
The Annual Golf Tournament is the organizations main source of funding for the Connell F. Smith-Homer Brown Scholarship Fund. which was established in 1986 to provide members and their families the opportunity to improve their lives by assisting them with the opportunity to further their education and obtain a college degree. For the past 32 years Local 773 has awarded 492 scholarships to deserving college students who otherwise would not have the opportunity to receive a college degree.
The Connell F. Smith-Homer Brown Scholarship Fund is a tax-exempt Charitable 501(c)3 foundation with the IRS.

Special Olympics

Laborers' Local 773 is proud to be a supporter of the Special Olympics.

 We believe that in-powering individuals with intellectual disabilities by discovering accomplishment, happiness and friendship while being part of a team through sports.
The goal of Special Olympics is to reach out to individuals through sports and seek abilities, not disabilities and to become confident in society. Local 773 sponsors various events throughout the year with monetary donations to help funding.
