Laborers' Special Olympics 50th Anniversary Kickoff

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics!!! As members of the communities that make up Southern Illinois, we should be proud of this milestone. In the 1960s, Dr. William Freeburg of Southern Illinois University along with Anne McGlone Burke, formed the concept, which we now call the Special Olympics. This concept was then presented to the Kennedy Foundation at the Touch of Nature (Camp Little Giant) and then in 1968 the first Special Olympic games were held on July 20th.

Dr Freeburg, of SIU, has been credited with the founding of the Special Olympics and we are calling on all members of LiUNA Local 773 to stand together to celebrate this important milestone. On April 6, 2018 there will be a day full of celebration and activities at the SIU Touch of Nature facilities. The events will begin at 10am and continue until 4pm. As strong and proud members of LiUNA Local 773, lets stand together and show our solidarity at this important event. We urge you to come out to Touch of Nature on April 6, 2018. All food and beverages will be provided to those who come out to support such a wonderful cause. Change the Game flyer 1-2018-final15932.jpg
