The members of the Laborers’ International Union are dedicated to hard working people coming together to improve the lives and their communities. Recognizing the critical need for a treatment facility for area children, Local 773 organized the effort to build a project that would provide therapy to disabled children who otherwise would go without. Laborers throughout southern Illinois donated labor and financial assistance and in 1994, the Therapy Center of Southern Illinois opened its doors. The center serves the needs of disabled children throughout the region, specializing in physical and speech therapy and providing free intensive pediatric therapy to more than 350 children annually. All services of TLC are provided free of charge and made possible by the fundraising efforts of the Laborers each year such as Trivia night, Roadblocks for TLC and The TLC Bocce Ball Tournament which are devoted to help the children with disabilities in Southern Illinois. The center’s main goal is to enable children to lead happier more productive lives by providing therapy along with equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs.
